New Fire Station Opens In West Bexar County

POSTED: Saturday, December 5, 2009
UPDATED: 6:19 pm CST December 5, 2009

Residents who live in part of far West Bexar County celebrated the opening of a new fire station Saturday morning.

They say it will provide some much needed fire protection to the area near the 18000 block of Bandera Road.

The station is the second one for the Emergency Services District #7. The new station will house a new fire engine, tanker and rescue trucks. Chief Kevin Clarkson said the new resources will help ease the burden of the district's other fire station located out on Galm Road in Helotes.

"You can tell just from city limits to here is about 5 miles. Out to 211 and Highway 37 is a pretty significant drive so it's really cut down on response times by having a station out here," Clarkson said.

The new station will be supported mostly by volunteers, but they will have two firefighters on staff 24 hours a day.
