2 SAPD Officers Injured In Attack
3 Men Arrested, Woman Hit By Vehicle

SAN ANTONIO -- Chaos erupted into gunfire outside a gas station on the city's Southeast Side on Monday night, resulting in injuries to two officers of the San Antonio Police Department, a man and a woman.
According to a news release, Officer Michael McFarland and an unidentified officer stopped at the Exxon gas station at the intersection of Roosevelt Avenue and Military Drive at 7 p.m. to get a soft drink.
While McFarland was inside the store, the other officer was approached by an elderly man, who claimed that three men were harassing him, the news release said. When the officer when to confront the men, two of them attacked him, the news release said.
When the officer tried to restrain one of the men, the other two men took off in a vehicle, the news release said. A short time later, one of the men returned to the store and drove the vehicle at a woman who was helping the officer, the news release said. It was then that McFarland came out of the store and ordered the driver, who was circling the parking lot, out of the vehicle, the news release said. Seconds later, the driver sped toward McFarland, who tried to run away but was struck by the vehicle, the news release said. McFarland then fired his weapon twice, wounding the man in the elbow, the news release said.
McFarland, the woman and the driver were transported to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, the news release said.
The driver will be charged with two counts of attempted capital murder. The second man will be charged with aggravated assault. The third man who got away has been located and charges were pending against him.
As per departmental policy, McFarland, a 10-year veteran of SAPD, will be placed on administrative duty.
