SAN ANTONIO -- It took just 90 minutes for a jury to convict 26-year-old Charles Reese of the March 10, 2009 murder of his wife, 18-year-old Shanika Sanford.
Reese confessed to the murder when he was arrested four days after Sanford was shot in the parking lot of a Northside apartment complex.
Witnesses testified that the couple had argued prior to the shooting. They said that when Reese tried to force his bride of just two weeks into a car, she balked. He fired five shots, hitting Sanford in the head, neck and abdomen. Reese told police he fired the last four shots because he "didn't want her to know that the person she loved shot her."
The punishment phase of Reese's trial will resume on Wednesday in Judge Lori Valenzuela's 437th District Court.
Reese is facing a maximum punishment of life in prison.
