A three-year veteran of the San Antonio Police Department shot a man who was wielding a butcher knife Tuesday night on the city's South Side.

According to a news release, Officer Daniel Pue and an unidentified officer responded to a call of two men acting suspiciously and causing a disturbance at a Valero Corner Store at the corner of Military Drive and Commercial Avenue just before 10 p.m.

When the officers arrived, they witnessed one of the men holding the knife, the news release said. The man immediately ran from the officers, who chased him for two blocks until he turned toward Pue. The man walked toward Pue, who ordered the man to drop the knife, the news release said. When the man was about 6 feet from Pue, the officer shot the man, wounding him in the leg once, the news release said. The man was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He will be charged with attempted capital murder.

As per departmental policy, Pue will be placed on administrative duty.
