SAN ANTONIO -- A domestic dispute in the 1500 block of West Hildebrand Avenue, just after 10 a.m. Wednesday, led to a woman being taken to an area hospital in critical condition from severe stab wounds in addition to her assailant for self-inflicted stab wounds.
The police report states the woman, 59-year-old Rosa Hernandez, got into an argument with her partner after he claimed she was having an affair. The argument ended when he stabbed her several times in the chest with a knife.
"She fled from that one location literally across the street to another location and was requesting help," said San Antonio police Sgt. Michael A. Garcia.
That other location, El Rafas Cafe, had several customers inside enjoying a late breakfast Hernandez came in asking for help, telling them she'd just been stabbed. After the 29-year-old alleged stabber heard the sirens, he turned the knife on himself.
"The male person saw the police show up and from what I understand, he inflicted several stab wounds to himself in his chest," said Garcia.
Both the victim and suspect were taken to University hospital. The man's wounds were not life threatening but Hernandez went into surgery shortly after arriving and was still in critiical condition Wednesday afternoon.
Police processed the scene Wednesday morning and, after a lengthy search, were able to find the knife used in the attack.
The suspect is currently facing a charge of aggravated assualt with a deadly weapon, but it could be upgraded depending on whether Hernandez improves.
