Student Accused Of Forgery

Jose Rodriguez Made $10 Bills At His House, Police Say

POSTED: Wednesday, March 10, 2010

Jose Roberto Rodriguez, 17, a student at McCollum High School was arrested and charged with forgery on Wednesday.

Rodriguez is accused of producing a counterfeit $10 bill. Police said he gave it to another student who used it at the school's cafeteria.

That student came forward, which led the Secret Service to Rodriguez's home.

Police said said Rodriguez admitted to making the money on a home computer and then trying to spend it at school.

"All we know is that the student who passed the counterfeit cash came forward and said, 'I got it from one particular student,' a 17-year-old also at the high school," said Harlandale ISD spokeswoman Leslie Garza. "So as far as we know, it was a single exchange between the two of them."

Detectives said they also found more fake bills at his home.

The student who passed the fake bill he got from Rodriguez has not been charged in this case.
