SAN ANTONIO -- Residents displaced by a collapsed retaining wall in a subdivision in northwest San Antonio were the guests of honor Saturday at an event in their neighborhood.
Those living in the neighborhood hosted an afternoon barbecue to give those displaced residents a chance to get out of their hotel rooms. Twenty-seven families have been living in nearby hotels after the collapse of a man-made retaining wall near their homes back in January.
The barbecue at the subdivision's park allowed the displaced residents a chance to get a home-cooked meal and also gave their kids a chance to enjoy playing outside.
Those who live in the neighborhood said this entire ordeal has given them a chance to meet a bunch of new people.
"It has brought our community together," homeowner Ben Davila said. "We've had the opportunity to meet people that we maybe would never have met before because of the circumstances."
Earlier this week, the home builder, Pulte, offered to buy back the homes belonging to those affected by the evacuation. Pulte Homes has said it will rebuild the retaining wall.
