SAN ANTONIO -- A San Antonio woman was recently featured on the Discovery Health program "Mystery Diagnosis."
Teresa Zdansky never had any health until she became pregnant with her second child, Kendra. That's when she began presenting some unusual symptoms.
"It all started with basically having numbness to my face. I woke up one day and it was there," said Zdansky.
Her doctors attributed her symptoms to her pregnancy so she fought through it. But after her daughter's birth, the symptoms persisted.
Finally she went to see neurologist Dr. Praveen Thangada, who ordered an MRI. The MRI showed exactly what was causing Zdansky so much pain. She had a tumor in the base of her brain the size of a small piece of fruit.
"This is actually a slow growing mass so she probably had it for a long time. Ten years or more," said Dr. Thangada.
Zdansky's condition took so long to diagnose she was featured on the television show "Mystery Diagnosis" on the Discovery Health Channel.
When the mystery was finally solved, Teresa underwent brain surgery.
"I have disabilities which I wish i never had but I look at like, I'm here. And I'm here to help other people that have my condition", said Zdansky.
Zdansky is now heading up a support group for other people with brain tumors. She said so no one has to go through it alone. You can get more information about her support group by calling (210) 386-5608.
