A man suspected in a San Antonio homicide was released on bond Friday before the alleged victim's mother arrived to confront him.

When Ruth Clattenburg heard the man accused of killing her son, Troy, was being released from the Bexar County Jail, she immediately went to the jail.

"I wanted to ask him, how could you come into my home and not just murder my son but execute him," she said.

Clattenburg waited on the front steps of the Bexar County Detention Center, only to learn that she was too late.

Cody James Carmichael, 21, had been released on $100,000 bond an hour before Clattenburg arrived.

"I'm very upset that he was released. My son's dead and he's walking away free," she said.

Carmichael is accused of killing Troy Clattenburg, 24, on Feb. 21 at the apartment Clattenburg shared with his mother.

She found his body the following morning.

"I just started shaking him. I was screaming, 'Troy, Troy, Troy,'" said Clattenburg.

According to the arrest warrant, Carmichael was angry, alleging Troy Clattenburg had made unwanted sexual advances toward him, so he shot Clattenburg once in the back of the head.

Ruth Clattenburg does not believe the story.

"Troy did not deserve this and he did not bring this on," she said. She said she will not rest until Carmichael is back in jail.
