Wednesday was graduation day for 25 members of the community. They completed a month long course to be part of the Community Response Team or CERT.
Graduates like Christian Bove were trained to assist others when professional responders are not immediately available.
"Fire and police have great response within 3 or 4 minutes but if it's your next door neighbor you are there within seconds," said Graduate Christian Bove.
Graduates wore full safety equipment during their last tornado exercise. Teams swept the outside and inside of the building, checking for victims.
Instructor Lee Weingert said participants learned valuable life saving skills. "Get them out safely until first responders can get to the area, " said master instructor Weingert.
CERT classes are offered 5 to 6 times a year. Anyone who is at least 18 years old can participate.
