SAN ANTONIO -

A contractor error is being blamed for the weekend closure of the northbound lanes of US 281 this weekend.

Crews shut down the lanes between Brook Hollow and Loop 1604 at 10 p.m. Friday. Entrance ramps onto 281 North were also closed. Crews expect to have the lanes open by 5 a.m. Monday.

The Alamo Regional Mobility Authority discovered problems with the asphalt.

"While we were doing the final inspections on that roadway, some of the asphalt that was laid on those main lanes was nonconforming and so the contractor has to go out and remove and replace it at the contractor's expense," said Renee Green, Bexar County engineer.
