3 arrested in Good Samaritan's death
2 adults, 1 minor arrested after gunning down man while fleeing robbery scene
Family members of 20-year old John "Andy" Bermea, who was shot and killed early Thursday morning, said he was a good man who was looking forward to being a new dad and starting college soon.
They said Bermea (pictured) thought some alleged robbers had hurt his aunt, Nana, so that's why he went after them.
She said she had a special bond with her nephew and she believes he was trying to protect her and her three kids from three robbery suspects running through their apartment complex in the 10400 block of Huebner early Thursday morning.
The trio had allegedly just robbed the Corner Store down the street from the complex.
"He took off and I tried to tell him, 'Andy, don't do this, they've got guns. Come back, please Andy,' and he's like, 'No, this is for the best,'" said Bermea.
But police say he was shot by one of the suspects minutes after they allegedly robbed a gas station nearby.
Police have three people in custody -- one of whom is a minor.
The two adults have been identified as 23-year-old Nicholas Jeremy Pacheco and 23-year-old Mishael Isaiah Lozano.
Both have been charged with capital murder and are each being held on $1 million bonds.
Investigators believe the trio cut through the apartment complex while fleeing the scene of a the robbery.
Bermea says her nephew is a hero.
"My kids are going to know him as a hero and his unborn child is going to know him as a hero and we're going to carry this on," said Bermea.
Lozano was also charged with possession of a controlled substance. According to the police report, he had 5.3 grams of ecstasy on him.
