3 killed in head-on crash in Hays County

Truck passed in no-passing zone, DPS says

HAYS COUNTY, Texas – Three people died Tuesday morning in Hays County after two vehicles collided head-on on Ranch Road 12, authorities said.

The crash was reported about 4 miles west of San Marcos, just south of Hugo Road, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

According to DPS, a Dodge pickup truck attempted to pass a vehicle in a no-passing zone and collided head-on with a Toyota Camry.

A male and a female passenger in the Camry died at the scene, DPS said. The driver of the truck was also killed.

Three other people were taken to the South Texas Medical Center with unknown injuries, DPS said. Officials have not said in which vehicles the three injured people were riding.

Ranch Road 12 was shut down in both directions while authorities worked to clear the scene. The Hays County Emergency Management office says the roadway has since reopened.

DPS is investigating the crash.
