3 restaurants cook up failing scores
The end of January has seen a bumper crop of bad restaurant scores all around San Antonio. The trend continues as KSAT's Behind the Kitchen Door wraps up the month.
Troy's Other Place located on Austin Highway failed their latest inspection with 39 demerits that included:
- The inspector said food wasn't kept cold enough.
- Not all sinks had soap and paper towels.
- The staff was told to clean kitchen countertops and equipment.
An employee tells KSAT's Behind the Kitchen Door the inspector hasn't come back yet for the re-inspection.
Dos Jalisco is located on FM 78 between Walzem and Crestway. The restaurant received 37 demerits for several violations that included:
- Employees were warned to stop drinking, eating or using tobacco in the food prep.
- They needed handsoap at all sinks.
- There was evidence of insects.
Metro Health went back last week and found no problems but said they would stop by again in six weeks.
Candilejas Mexican Restaurant is located underneath the Highway 281 / Interstate 35 interchange near downtown. They failed their latest inspection with 33 demerits for violations that included:
- No hot water at any hand washing sinks.
- Mold was found in pickle jars and on other foods.
- Roaches were found in the establishment.
- The toilet in the men's room did not flush.
They were given 24 hours to fix the sinks or be shut down. Metro Health said the required repairs were made.
On the other end of the ledger, perfect health scores were recently handed out several San Antonio area restaurants. They include:
- Chili's on Southwest Loop 410.
- Dairy Queen just north of Highway 90 on General McMullen.
- Jalapeno Joe's on Moursund Road.
- Luciano's Pizzeria at the Shops at La Cantera.
- Raquel's Homemade Tamales on Isom Road.
