SAN ANTONIO -- Two teenagers are being held Thursday in the Bexar County Juvenile Detention Center after they were charged with the murder of the mother of one of the boys.
David Childress and his neighbor, James Hartman Gruber, surrendered to authorities in Bandera Wednesday after they were being sought by San Antonio police in connection with the murder of Meda Childress, 47.
The boys were wanted after they were spotted dragging the victim's body down a stairwell Wednesday morning at La Bella Apartments in the 100 block of Club Street.
David Childress told reporters, "I was mistreated as a child," as he and Groover were being escorted by police.
Authorities said the boys hitchhiked to Bandera, where they later turned themselves in to police. One of the boys apparently has family there, authorities said.
San Antonio police would not confirm reports that detectives confiscated a computer from the Childress apartment that said David Childress wanted to kill his father.
One of boys was recently suspended from Jefferson High School, police said.
