POSTED: Tuesday, November 9, 2004
SAN ANTONIO -- A 48-year-old man is being held in a Tennessee jail Tuesday in connection with the hit-and-run fatality of a 17-year-old Southside High School student in August.
Robert Lawrence Huffman was apprehended Monday at a motel in Gallitin, Tenn., a small community northeast of Nashville, the Bexar County Sheriff's Department said.
Huffman's vehicle was spotted by a Sumner County, Tenn., sheriff's deputy, who noticed a vehicle with Texas plates parked at a motel.
Huffman was then arrested and charged with Failure To Stop And Render Aid Resulting In Death, a third-degree felony.
Extradition of Huffman to Bexar County is pending.
Huffman had been on the run since Rafael Garcia was struck and killed by a vehicle Aug. 18 in the 24200 block of U.S. Highway 281 in southern Bexar County.
