Robbers chase
SAN ANTONIO -

Four robbery suspects are now behind bars after a short crime spree on Sunday morning and a high-speed chase, said police.

Police officials said the suspects were involved in two robberies, where both victims were held at gunpoint.

On Sunday at 7 am, authorities say an 80-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint and then pistol-whipped at a McDonald's parking lot off of Southcross.

Then, two hours later, police said the suspects held a young woman at gunpoint, taking her purse at a HEB parking lot across the street from the first robbery.

In both cases, officials say the suspects fled in a stolen Toyota truck.

"It was very brutal this morning, the way they pistol-whipped this 80-year-old man, who was pretty much defenseless," said Sergeant Daniel Gonzales with the San Antonio Police Department. "It's kind of paramount that we did take these young men off the street."

Gonzales said when officers located the suspect vehicle, the four guys sped off, leading police on a high-speed chase through the city's east and south sides.

Police used patrol cars and a helicopter to track the suspects down.

The four guys dumped the truck at a Southside apartment complex, but police found two of the suspects under a large trailer and later found the other two suspects.

"They jumped fences and ended up being in this apartment complex," said Gonzales. "With the help of police helicopters and several units of the police patrol division, south patrol and east patrol, we were able to apprehend all four suspects."

Police are determining what charges the four suspects will face.

The 80-year-old man, who was beaten, was taken to the hospital.
