Residents Pack Council Chambers For PGA Tour Hearing
Project Vote Expected Thursday

SAN ANTONIO -- Dozens of San Antonians crowded City Council chambers Tuesday night to voice their opinions on a proposed PGA Tour golf resort over the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone in north Bexar County.
Residents for and against the proposal were well represented at the first of two scheduled public hearings. The second hearing is scheduled for Thursday, the same day the City Council is expected to vote on the proposal shortly thereafter.
The crowd at times was vocal, as when a large contingent of resort supporters stood and clapped in support of the project.
Those opposed to the resort expressed their opinion by performing a skit that mocked Mayor Ed Garza and the City Council.
Opponents believe the golf resort will jeopardize the environment.
But supporters, some of them who were against a failed, similar golf resort proposal, say the new pact includes enough protection for the aquifer.
The proposed development calls for a pair of PGA Tour world-class professional golf courses, a Marriott hotel and residential homes.
