SAN ANTONIO -- A San Antonio City Council member is asking her colleagues to postpone a critical vote that would bring the PGA Tour to San Antonio.
"Many people in the community are not satisfied with the level of answers to questions," Councilwoman Patti Radle told KSAT-12 News on Wednesday, one day after a lengthy public hearing on the issue was held.
The council is scheduled to vote Thursday on a non-annexation agreement with developers of a proposed golf resort in north Bexar County. The resort would include two Tournament Players Club courses and a luxury Marriott hotel.
Radle said citizens concerned about the potential environmental impact of the project have not been given clear answers. The project would be built over the Edwards Aquifer.
"I think the community has a right to have clear answers to these questions, especially when it's been such a controversial issue," Radle said.
Radle has not found much council support for postponing the vote. Mayor Ed Garza told KSAT-12 News that he wants the vote to move forward as scheduled, saying it's not fair to drag it out any longer.
"We know that time is of the essence," Garza said. "We want to get this going so we can really start the timeline on this and make this project a reality."
Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff on Wednesday urged City Council not to delay the vote.
"We've debated it for three years," Wolff said. "I don't know how much longer we can debate this."
The PGA of America pulled out of a similar project last June, citing "political unrest" in the city as one reason.
Another public hearing on the issue is scheduled Thursday at City Council chambers.
