Apartment Complex To Require Resident IDs

Residents At Odds Over Apparent Crime Deterrent

In an apparent move to deter crime, residents at a Northeast Side apartment complex will soon be required to wear identification badges when they are outside their unit.

Residents recently received a notice in the mail from management at the Springhill Apartments informing them of the new security measure.

According to the letter, tenants will be required to wear a number tag that identifies them as a resident of the apartment community in the 4800 block of Raybon.

The letter also said management received numerous complaints about "unauthorized visits."

Apartment management had no comment and referred all questions to the San Antonio Housing Authority.

Residents at the complex had mixed feelings about the ID badges.

"We have a lot of crime on this property, (so) we need to know who we can identify," said Nancy Schwartz, a tenant.

"It's not going to do any better because they (are) still going to come in, regardless if they have that tag or not," said Jayleen Glover, a tenant.
