SAHA Says No To Apartment ID Badges

Apartment Management Sent Letters To Residents

POSTED: 9:33 am CST January 13, 2005

The San Antonio Housing Authority has informed tenants at a government subsidized apartment complex that they will not be required to wear identification badges.

Some tenants at Springhill Apartments in the 4800 block of Raybon received a notice from management on Tuesday informing them they would soon have to sport ID badges when their outside their unit.

Hours later, SAHA sent a letter, telling residents to disregard the notice that was not authorized by the agency.

"It is not SAHA's policy ... that our residents or any of our program participants be required to wear any kind of identification," said SAHA spokeswoman Melanie Villalobos.

The ID badge plan was an effort by apartment management to deter unauthorized visits at the complex.

Villalobos said SAHA will work on other ways to help insure security on the property.
