Former San Antonio news anchorman Gerry Grant admitted Thursday that he purchased four photographs of young girls from a prostitute who was supplied the pictures by the San Antonio Police Department.

Grant, who last worked at KSAT 12, made a public confession before reporters, saying that he never has touched or harmed a child.

Grant was arrested last October at a hotel after allegedly buying sexually explicit pictures of children.

He was indicted in January on one count of possession of child pornography.

San Antonio law enforcement officials said that Grant purchased four pictures of children, between the ages of 6 and 12, engaging in sexual conduct.

Grant's attorney, Michael Granados, declined further comment related to his client's remarks to the media, saying "the statement speaks for itself. I don't see how I can add to it in any way."

Granados also declined to speculate on what impact, if any, Grant's statement -- effectively a public confession -- would have on his trial.

"There is a court setting next Tuesday," he said. "We'll be discussing further developments between now and then."

Grant is no longer employed at KSAT 12.

A tentative date for his trial is scheduled for Feb. 20.
