SAN ANTONIO -- A jury on Tuesday ordered a local restaurant to pay $6 million in connection with a DWI lawsuit.
Crabby Jacks was ordered to pay $4 million to the parents of Roy Williams, who died in a wrong-way head-on crash in 1999.
The lawsuit contended that bartenders at the restaurant continued to serve alcoholic drinks to Ernesto Gonzalez Jr., who was driving drunk. Gonzalez is currently serving a prison sentence after pleading guilty to intoxication manslaughter and other charges.
The jury also awarded $2 million to two passengers injured in the crash.
"We're pleased that the jury did their hard work and spoke for our community and sent a message to the bar owners for our community," David Williams, an attorney representing the Williams family, said following the trial.
There is no word if Crabby Jacks plans to appeal the jury's decision.
