SAN ANTONIO -- Police arrested a 22-year-old former youth pastor Tuesday in connection with the fatal stabbing of his pregnant 17-year-old girlfriend.

Adrian Estrada surrendered to police early Tuesday and was charged with capital murder. He is being held in the Bexar County Jail on $500,000 bond.

Estrada is accused of stabbing Stephanie Sanchez, who was three months pregnant with their child, inside her West Side home Monday afternoon.

"An argument broke out, which turned physical," said San Antonio Police Department spokesman Joe Rios. "At one point, he choked her and then stabbed her multiple times."

Rios said Sanchez's father arrived at their home in the 400 block of Precious Drive at 4:30 p.m. and found the victim lying on the floor near the front of the home, covered with blood but still breathing.

Emergency medical technicians were unable to revive the senior who attended El Sendero Assembly of God Academy.

Sources told KSAT 12 News that Estrada was active with the youth ministry at the academy until he resigned Oct. 15.

Robert Lera, principal at the academy, had no comment on the suspect, the victim or the incident.

Estrada has no criminal record and police have no record of violence involving the couple.

According to an arrest affidavit, police obtained a search warrant and collected evidence from Estrada's apartment and impounded his Camaro, which witnesses reported seeing flee from the scene of the crime.
