SAN ANTONIO -- San Antonio police are investigating the theft of a box of jewelry worth $60,000 that was stolen during a Fed Ex delivery at North Star Mall on Thursday.
Police said that a Fed Ex driver had packed several boxes onto a cart and was making deliveries to various stores when he arrived at Zales Jewelers and found a box full of jewelry missing.
"He ... didn't notice any boxes missing from the cart and continued the delivery," said San Antonio Police Department spokesman Gabe Trevino. "He came to the Zales Jewelry store to deliver the package, he looked and that package was gone. At that point, it was discovered that it was taken from the cart."
Police are treating the incident as a theft investigation.
Detectives are reviewing mall surveillance video to see if the incident was caught on tape.
