Judge Limits Dog Collector To 5 Animals
Woman Pleas With Public To Adopt
POSTED: Tuesday, December 20, 2005
A woman charged with hoarding almost 30 dogs in her Eastside home will get five of them back.
Twenty-seven dogs were rounded up last week by animal cruelty officers in the 3000 block of Lake Tahoe. Investigators said their owner let them take over the house, creating a health hazard for her and her dogs.
A municipal judge ruled Tuesday that the homeowner can get five of the dogs back, which is the city's legal limit.
But Leena Harris says she was just trying to rescue the animals.
Most of the dogs are now at the city pound.
Their owner is asking people to adopt them before they are put to sleep.
