600 teddy bears donated to SAPD
Stuffed animals will be handed out to children at crime scenes
Reagan High School and Community First Health Plans donated 600 teddy bears and stuffed toys to the San Antonio Police Department on Monday for the department's "Teddy Bear Program".
The stuffed animals will be handed out to children who have either witnessed or been a victim of a crime to provide them comfort during a difficult time.
"It seems like such a small thing, just a stuffed animal, but we realize that it makes a big impact on the community," said Maile Hekekia of Reagan High School. "That stuffed animal can offer comfort to a child who is frightened and in a scary situation."
The program has been around since the early 1990s.
