$636 million prize draws SA hopefuls
Mega Millions jackpot is second largest in U.S. history
San Antonians went loco for the lottery ahead of Tuesday night’s Mega Millions jackpot that shot up to $636 million after no one won last week’s prize.
At Malone Grocery on West Malone near Interstate 35, customers who filed in to buy their tickets imagined what they would do with the winnings.
“Just thinking about it gives you the willies, doesn’t it?" said customer, Daniel Esparza. “I’d go on a good vacation, for one. Then come back and buy a house and then see what happens after that.”
“I think I would have a family reunion for the entire family on a cruise ship or something,” said customer, Abel Escobar.
Some customers bought only one ticket, while others bought a few more.
“Three has always been a number for me. I always buy three of everything,” said customer, Christina Cervantes.
Customer, Leo Acevedo bought $50 in tickets at Malone’s to bring his grand total to $150 worth from three different stores which he will split with 15 co-workers.
“I’ve been doing it for the last two weeks,” Acevedo said. “This is my third week. Hopefully this is it.”
The odds of winning are 1 in 259 million.
“Who doesn’t want to be a millionaire?” Escobar said. “Somebody's got to win it eventually and it may be me.”
UPDATE: The winning numbers are: 8-20-14-17-39 Mega Ball: 7
