CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Seven South Texas residents have been indicted in an investigation of counterfeit DVDs and CDs that led to the seizure of more than 58,000 fake items.
Federal prosecutors on Thursday announced the arrest of six people from Corpus Christi. All face detention hearings Friday in the copyright infringement and intellectual property rights cases. A seventh defendant remains at large.
Prosecutors say the indictment involves fake movies and music distributed in the Corpus Christi area via flea markets and at least one company.
A raid last August at three homes and a business led to thousands of pirated DVDs and CDS confiscated, along with production materials.
