A 78-year-old San Antonio woman is the second person to die of West Nile virus in 2012, San Antonio Metropolitan Health District officials said Tuesday.

The woman died Aug. 22 at a long-term rehabilitation facility, health officials said. Her name has not been released.

A 77-year-old man who was retired from the military died of the virus at San Antonio Military Medical Center on Aug. 21.

Health officials said there are currently eight confirmed cases of the virus, including the two fatalities.

West Nile virus is carried by mosquitoes.
