SAN ANTONIO -- A single mother with a baby attacked a man who police say broke into her home early Friday on the near North Side.
Police said the woman fell asleep on her couch when she heard a noise in her home in the 100 block of Vassar at 2 a.m.
After she spotted the man in the kitchen, he allegedly grabbed a knife. She then got a bat and hit him once in the head, police said.
The man fell to the floor and then ran out of the house.
He was found a short time later hiding in a shed three blocks away.
The woman made a positive ID of the man and told police that he was the same man who was looking through her window while she was doing dishes earlier in the day.
The man, who police said was a registered sex offender, was arrested and faces a charge of burglary of a habitation.
