SAN ANTONIO -- Representatives with the Texas Commission On Environmental Quality and the Environmental Protection Agency met Tuesday night with King William District residents who are worried about possible chemical contamination in their neighborhood.
Residents fear there may be asbestos in the soil at the old Big Tex Grain Company in the 300 block of Blue Star, where a new development project is in the works.
The concern is that during the demolition and the construction, asbestos could be released into the air.
"We want to make sure there is adequate testing before the developer starts digging for sewer lines, for building foundations and the rest of that," said Anita Anderson, a resident.
Jon Rinehart, of the EPA, said that the agency plans to finalize a soil testing plan within the next 30 days.
"We are here to work with the state and develop this plan to determine if there is a problem or a risk to have construction done on this property," Rinehart said.
