A man in jail on capital murder charges, who also is accused in the deaths of two young cousins and a local mother, now is a suspect in the 6-year-old double murder of two teenage girls.

Laura GamezJennifer TaylorBandera County Sheriff James MacMillan said that Ramon Hernanez is the prime suspect in the double murder of Jennifer Taylor and Laura Gomez, both 15.

"I believe he's responsible for the deaths of Jennifer and Laura," MacMillan said.

Taylor and Gomez were last seen walking together in November 1994. Six months later, on Easter Sunday, the John Jay High School students were found together, buried in a shallow grave in Pipe Creek.

"We had extreme decomposition, which is another thing that hurt (the investigation)," MacMillan said.

What investigators did have was an eyewitness who allegedly saw Hernandez with the victims.

The girls' bodies were found on property off of Farm Road 1283 in Bandera County. Investigators said that the property once belonged to Hernandez's uncle.

But MacMillan said that there wasn't enough physical evidence to charge Hernandez.

Nearly two weeks ago, San Antonio police said that DNA evidence linked the 29-year-old man to the murders of two young cousins, Sarah Gonzales and Priscilla Almares.

"We're not surprised that he's involved in some others, but we're glad he's not on the street anymore," MacMillan said.

DNA technology could close the Bandera case.

"We're in the process of gathering everything and getting it back into the lab, and (letting technicians) go over it with an even finer tooth comb than they have now," MacMillan said.

Those tests will take some time, he said.
