In a tearful face-to-face courtroom confrontation Wednesday morning, Cecilia Tijerina’s daughters told Adam Rincon, 19, that they forgave him.

Just minutes earlier, as part of a plea bargain, Rincon plead guilty to murdering Tijerina and was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Rincon shot the woman several times and then ran over her with his car, according to prosecutors.

They say Rincon was roaming a West side neighborhood on the night of July 13, 2011, assaulting and robbing prostitutes, when he came upon Tijerina.

“That night, she called me and told me she was going to a party and I told her not to,” Veronica Valenzuela, the woman’s daughter, told reporters outside the courtroom following Rincon’s sentencing.

She said her mother was not a prostitute and was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Valenzuela said her mother’s decision not to heed her advice has left her devastated.

“Without her I am lost. She was everything to me,” Valenzuela said.

An affirmative finding that Rincon used a deadly weapon was made by 187th District Court Judge Raymond Angelini.

The finding means that Rincon must serve half of his sentence -- day for day -- before he can he considered for parole.
