SAN ANTONIO -

Another month means another large adoption ceremony for Bexar County, who continues to lead the state and often the nation in child adoptions.

Friday’s ceremony was especially poignant for Cynthia Briones, who officially adopted her four biological grandchildren.

"It would have always been yes, from the beginning,” said Briones, when asked if there was ever a doubt about adopting.

In fact, it was an easy decision for Briones, because she is no stranger to the process. She was adopted by her own grandparents.

"I know where they’re coming from, I know where they’ve been, and I know what they need for their future,” said Briones.

She credited her grandparents with making her the person she is today and teaching her the importance of paying it forward. Briones has spent the past eight years fostering and mentoring young teenage girls, knowing first-hand the experience.

Now, with her own blood needing her help, all of that experience paid off.

"I would not change for the world that I’ve been adopted and I’ve explained to the kids that it’s a good thing for them too,” she said.

Friday’s ceremony saw 39 adoptions to 26 families, many of whom were overjoyed to make their adoptions official. For Briones, it was process that may have been familiar, but rewarding as ever.

"The unconditional love -- you can't get this anywhere else."
