Child Protective Services held their March Adoption Day Ceremony on Friday, giving 45 children new homes.

A total of 27 families took part in the ceremony, which took place at the Bexar County Jury Room.

“I thought I was finished, and I'm a grandpa, and I thought I was playing the grandpa role when Bradley decided no, I think I need a Dad,” said Ruben Rodriguez, who adopted a 13-year-old. “I just feel so comfortable being his Dad.”

Rodriguez’s joy was shared across the room, as many parents said they have been anxiously awaiting their adoption proceedings to become official.

"It's very rewarding,” said Wayne Whitaker, who adopted a 2-year-old girl, after previously adopting four boys. “You know you're helping a child to nurture and to grow.”

The children adopted on Friday range in age from 11 months to 17 years old.

Anyone interested in becoming an adoptive parent has to meet a series of requirements, as well as attend a meeting and training, before doing so.
