SCHERTZ, Texas -

Clemens High School senior Sjamari Roberts, never expected it: her military dad to surprise in her Monday morning dance class.

Captain Darin Roberts was greeted by plenty of happy shrieks and tears after returning home a week early from a six month deployment to Afghanistan.

“I was shocked because I thought I was in trouble in school!” said Sjamari. “But I was very happy to see him. Shocked and surprised."

"I hate that I missed a few months of her senior year,” said Roberts.”But I’m back now and we'll make up for lost time.”

But the surprises didn’t end at Clemens.

Roberts headed to Schertz Elementary to surprise his 4th and 5th grade sons. Part of the “secret mission” included giving his kids medals and certificates signed by Roberts’ own boss to commend their hard work and sacrifice during his deployment.

“They step up with responsibilities and help out the team,” said Roberts. “We call ourselves the Roberts family team.”

And now, the team captain is home for good.

“It’s just a great day," Roberts said.
