Alamo Heights Navy recruiter accused of sexual assault
Police: Juan Pena, 28, got woman drunk, sexually assaulted her
Juan Pena, a 28-year-old U.S. Navy recruiter, is accused of getting a recruit and her cousin drunk and having sex with one of them inside a recruiting office in Alamo Heights.
Alamo Heights police arrested Pena Monday in connection with the incident which allegedly happened in December.
A 19-year-old woman told investigators that she and her cousin went to the Navy recruiting office on Broadway and spoke to Pena about changing her military status from active duty to reserve.
An arrest affidavit stated she told police after the business was completed, Pena invited her and cousin to stay and drink alcohol.
The cousin was also interviewed and told investigators both she and the alleged victim became intoxicated and that the 19-year-old passed out.
The affidavit stated that the cousin told police she saw Pena having sex with the unconscious woman.
The cousin said when she tried to go and get help, she became involved in a traffic accident and was arrested.
The affidavit stated that police also spoke to a witness who claimed to have seen Pena bringing the alleged victim home and leaving her on her porch, half naked.
During their investigation, police said they spoke to a friend of Pena’s who told them they returned to the recruiting office later on and he saw Pena removing bottles of alcohol as well as other evidence, the affidavit stated. Pena was booked into the Bexar County jail with bond set at $20,000.
The affidavit did not mention whether the military might become involved in, or, perhaps, take over the legal proceedings.
Alamo Heights police stated anyone with information regarding sexual misconduct involving Pena is asked to call the department's criminal investigations division at 210-822-2164.
