Anderson Cooper is more accustomed to reporting news than to being the subject of stories himself, especially when it comes to his personal life.

The 45-year-old host of CNN’s "Anderson Cooper 360" and his own syndicated television show recently revealed he is gay in an open letter to his longtime friend Andrew Sullivan of the Daily Beast.

"The fact is, I'm gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn't be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud," Cooper wrote.

Cooper said he dodged questions about his sexuality in the past for professional reasons and to "maintain some level of privacy."

"As long as a journalist shows fairness and honesty in his or her work, their private life shouldn't matter," Anderson said.
