Antonian HS football team collects 2 tons of food
Souper Bowl of Caring Project goals exceeds expectations
Two weeks ago, the Antonian High School football team started a campaign to bring in food donations as part of the "Souper Bowl of Caring Project".
On Monday, the team found out their hard work paid off.
Team members pledged to bring in over 3,267 pounds of food, equivalent to the weight of the varsity football team.
But the team far exceeded their goal by collecting more than 4,000 pounds or two tons of food.
"We all have pretty good lives that are above the norm, so it's a good thing to give back to the communities that help us out as well," said Eric Johnson, an Antonian High School student.
Ian Mulroy, a ninth-grader, passed out flyers around his neighborhood and collected as many cans of food as possible.
"It made me feel real good because people were helping me and contributing to the cause," Mulroy said.
The food collected will benefit the Saint Vincent De Paul Society and its 75 food pantries.
