The nation is still reeling from the tragic school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. As a parent, you want to make sure your kids are safe, but you can't keep an eye on them 24/7. There are a few apps, however, that can help keep from harm:
This app uses GPS to locate your family members. With it, you can see all your kids on a private map. You can also track crime nearby, and send & receive alerts in emergencies. It is free, but there is a premium version for $5 a month. It is available on the iPhone, Android, and Blackberry.

Circle of 6:
With the touch of a button you can show six of your closest friends your location. You can ask a friend to call 911, pick you up, and more. Circle of 6 uses buttons instead of text, so no one knows what you are doing. It is free and available on the iPhone and Android.

This app combines child safety and social media. It sends distress warnings to your friends on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and people using the app within a 5 mile radius. It can also record GPS locations, video and audio, to help people find you if you are in trouble. It is free on iPhone and Android.

FBI Child ID:
If the unthinkable happens and you need help fast, this app will help. The FBI developed Child ID. The app stores your child's picture, and information like: height weight and other distinguishing features. You will have all the details at the tips of your fingers to show to a police officer of security guard. You can also email your child's picture and information to police. It is also free and available on the iPhone and Android.
