Early Thursday morning, a man armed with a semi-automatic handgun robbed the Fastway Food Mart, 1421 E. Common St., in New Braunfels.
Based on surveillance footage and descriptions of the suspect, New Braunfels police believe it’s the same man who also robbed the gas station twice last month.
“We’ve got pretty much the same MO -- brandishing a firearm, the same clothing description, the same kind of mask,” said Lt. John Wells, of the New Braunfels Police Department. “Until we get something that points us in a different direction, that’s what we’re going with.”
In each incident, the suspect entered the store at night, pointed his gun at the clerk, handed them what police believe to be a pillow case, and demanded money.
Wells said the man is in and out of the store within minutes and always leaves on foot. The suspect also wore the same clothes each time, a dark blue hooded sweater and a black mask covering his face.
Wells said he’s never seen anything like this in his 12 years as a police officer.
“It’s generally a different location if it’s going to be the same person, but definitely hitting the same location three times is something that’s unique for us,"
Not only do the string of incident have employees on edge, customers said they’ll think twice before filling up at the gas station at night.
“They need to find that guy,” said Luis Valdez, as he put gas in his car. “They need to get this fixed and solved because you can’t have that on the streets of New Braunfels.”
Comal County Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 cash reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 830-620-TIPS (8477).
