HOUSTON (AP) — Harris County authorities have arrested a man the day after his release from federal prison and have charged him with capital murder for a slaying almost seven years ago during an attempted home burglary.
Sheriff's department officials say 37-year-old Alvin Wiltz was arrested Wednesday during a traffic stop. A day earlier, he was let out of federal prison to begin probation for a 2008 controlled substance charge.
DNA from the scene of the June 2006 shooting death of 27-year-old Jermaine Clemons led to Wiltz. Cold case detectives say Clemons and Wiltz tried to get inside a home in the middle of the night.
The man living in the house got his handgun and during an ensuing shootout, evidence showed Clemons was shot in the back of the head by Wiltz.
