A woman was ambushed near her car early Wednesday morning by a man demanding her purse and giving sexually explicit instructions, according to police.
It happened around 1:30 a.m. on the 4900 block of USAA Boulevard.
Police said the woman refused to do as the man asked, and for reasons unknown, he dropped the purse and fled.
The attack, however, is not unique to the area -- several other women have been attacked in a similar manner since September.
All of the attacks have occurred with a mile west or east of Interstate 10, between Huebner Road and Loop 410.
“We believe that at least some of the attacks have been committed by one or two individuals,” said San Antonio police Chief William McManus.
McManus said the attacks usually involved a sexual assault and a robbery.
Varying descriptions of the suspects and differing aspects of the crimes has not allowed police to pinpoint the attacks to a specific individual, according to McManus.
What is certain, however, is that they have all taken place within a specific area of town, and police are warning women who live and work in that area to take extra precaution.
“Always be aware of your surroundings and if you see anything suspicious or your gut tells you something isn’t right, don’t hesitate to call us,” said McManus.
