ODESSA, Texas (AP) — West Texas authorities are scheduled to provide an update on the death of a 3-year-old Russian boy who died last month after his adoptive mother found him unresponsive outside the family's home.

Ector County's sheriff and district attorney have scheduled a news conference for 2 p.m. Friday to discuss the death of Max Shatto. They're expected to discuss results of the autopsy.

Alan and Laura Shatto adopted Max and his half-brother last fall.

Laura Shatto told authorities she found Max unresponsive outside their Gardendale home Jan. 21. He was later pronounced dead. The Shattos' attorney says they're not responsible for the boy's death.

But Russian authorities have blamed the Shattos and used the case as justification for a recently enacted ban on all American adoptions of Russian children.
