Though citywide security is the primary responsibility of the San Antonio Police Department during the week of Fiesta, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office will also play a role.

“The San Antonio Police Department, because it’s right in the middle of the city, is fully prepared,” said Sheriff Susan Pamerleau.

But the sheriff said her office’s deputies will be available for additional manpower.

“Deputies are already downtown working special Fiesta security assignments,” she said. “And they will be available in an emergency.”

She said Tuesday's Boston Marathon bombing also needs to be taken into account.

“We will be more vigilant,” Pamerleau said. “Especially in view of the tragedy in Boston.”

The sheriff said that her primary concern is for the safety of the 3.5 million people who will be celebrating Fiesta Week.
