Barges decked out for Holiday River Parade
River lighting ceremony, parade Friday
Moments after the San Antonio River Walk is illuminated with thousands of Christmas lights, the festive 2012 Holiday Parade barges will roll down the river.
“Each year we keep kicking it up a notch, and this year is going to be bigger and better. Beautiful lights in the trees, and on the floats,” said Mari Vickery, with CSE Events. “Its going to be fantastic."
The barges will be decked out with 95,000 lights, which will all be choreographed to music as they float down the river.
A 12 Days of Christmas float, Macy’s and Starbucks barges are all new this year.
But of course, the old favorites like Rudolph and Frosty will be well-represented.
“A lot of the traditional floats you've seen in the past, but we've given them a bit of a twist this year,” said Vickery.
The parade is from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. It starts at The Westin River Walk hotel on Market Street between Saint Mary’s and Navarro Street and ends at the Municipal Auditorium on Auditorium Circle.
Tickets must be purchased to attend the parade and the Paseo del Rio Association expects to sell out by noon Friday.
About 3,000 tickets are left -- $10 general admission or $20 reserve seating.
