SAN ANTONIO -

Residents of the city’s Beacon Hill neighborhood fed up with graffiti are teaming with San Antonio police to learn to better identify and report graffiti that might be tied to criminal activity and gangs.

Neighbors met with members of the SAPD Gang Unit Monday night to learn to tell the difference between gang tagging and harmless spray painting, but said neither kind of graffiti is welcome in Beacon Hill.

“It's actually been voted the number one issue in our neighborhood the last four years,” said Jerry Lockey, Vice President of the Beacon Hill Neighborhood Association.

Lockey said he and other neighbors have seen what they believe to be gang graffiti, but all kinds of graffiti has plagued the area in recent years.

Homeowners and businesses do their best to paint over the graffiti as quickly as they can, but it’s an uphill battle, Lockey said.
