Louisa Martinez Alvarez, 36, is accused of stealing and cashing more than $13,000 worth of money orders from tenants at a southeast Bexar County mobile home park.

An arrest warrant affidavit stated that the owner of the park filed a complaint with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office last July, alleging that Martinez had stolen the money orders while working as the park manager.

The owner told investigators that the money orders were given to Martinez by tenants who were intending to pay their rent.

Instead, he said, Martinez cashed them and used the money for her own purposes, the affidavit stated.

The owner said the total actually was more than $20,000. However, investigators said they found proof that Martinez cashed about $13,000 worth of  money orders.

They said they found evidence that Martinez used one of the money orders to pay off “hot checks” that she owed, while another went to the state attorney general’s office to pay toward her husband’s child support account, the affidavit stated.

A warrant was issued Monday for Martinez’s arrest. She was taken into custody Tuesday on a charge of misapplication of fiduciary funds.
