It's Memorial Day Weekend and on Friday, hundreds of Boy Scouts spent the afternoon getting Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery ready by placing flags throughout the grounds.
Boy Scout Austin Yarrington said that placing the flags on the grave sites is a way of saying thank you.
"It's the time to respect and think about the soldiers that gave their life to us," Yarrington said. "My uncle was and my grandpa was [in the military], so it makes me feel kind of proud to be here,"
Scott Kruse, Scout Master of Troop 475, said one by one, the boys are honoring all the fallen soldiers
"We've done this every year," said Kruse. "It's a really nice event to do."
And, for some scouts, it's personal, knowing that their own families are also out there, making the sacrifice..
"It just means a lot of things," said Calvin Brunbalow, a scout. "A lot of my grandparents are all military and it's just nice to help out."
The American Flags will remain on the grounds throughout Memorial Day Weekend.
